A documentary  " This day in History ":

"This Day in History - July 20! On July 20, 1969 (10:56 pm EST), Neil Armstrong puts his left foot on the moon, taking "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins were chosen to man the most celebrated space flight of the century. Apollo 11 blasted off on July 16th, 1969 and four days later the module called "Eagle" landed on the moon. While Collins orbited the command module, Armstrong made history. As Armstrong and Aldrin explored the moon's powdery surface, some 600 million people, 1/5 of the Earth's population watched on television. Apollo 11's eight day mission was a triumph for Nasa, which had spent $25 Billion dollars and lost the lives of three astronauts in eight years of preparation. Many consider it the achievement of the century."
